Awards

Nominations forms for Educator of the Year, Administrator of the Year, and NHMEA Hall of Fame will be posted in December.  Forms are typically due February 1st, giving the board time to vote and present at the spring all-member meeting. 

Educator of the Year:           

NHMEA wishes to annually recognize an individual as the Distinguished Music Educator of the Year. ANYONE may submit a nomination and should consider the following criteria: teacher effectiveness, professionalism and service to NHMEA. The Executive Board shall be the selection committee and will vote by secret ballot after all nominations have been reviewed. At the Spring All-Member Meeting, the recipient will be announced and presented with a plaque. This is an effort by the Executive Board to recognize some of the very dedicated educators that the State of New Hampshire is fortunate to have.                                                        In addition to filling out the nomination form, you will need to upload two letters of recommendation- one from a student and one from an adult (can be educator, administrator, parent, etc.).  At least one of these should address as many of the following about the nominee as possible:  professional training,  teacher experience, professional affiliation/responsibilities,  teacher awards received,  contest/festival participation

Administrator of the Year:                                                                         

This award is given annually to the school administrator who has displayed active and continuing support for an outstanding and well-balanced music program in his/her school.
Qualifications:
1. Must be nominated by an active member of NHMEA.
2. Must be an active administrator such as a superintendent, principal, assistant principal who has served a minimum of five years in any school system(s).
3. Must have demonstrated significant efforts in support of music education in his/her school.                                                                           In addition to filling out the nomination form, you will need to upload two letters of recommendation speaking to the nominee’s education background and a summary of their achievements and awards.

Hall of Fame:                                                                                                   

An award will be presented to the Hall of Fame recipients at the Fall All-Member Meeting, and their picture and biographical data will be published in Quarter Notes. The selection committee for this honor will be made up of the Past Presidents with the Immediate Past President acting as the Chairperson for the committee. A ballot will be prepared and persons receiving 2/3 of the votes cast will be elected into the Hall of Fame.  Any New Hampshire music educator holding current membership, past or present, active or inactive, alive or deceased, will be eligible for consideration.       

 In addition to filling out the nomination form, you will need to  attach a document answering the following questions:               

1. How has the nominee evidenced a commitment to a career as a music educator?             

2. In what ways has the nominee demonstrated by example and deed the basic principles of an outstanding music educator?     

3. Has the nominee shown creativity, originality, and imagination as a music educator?                                       

4. List the professional organizations in which the nominee holds membership. Include offices held, and individual and group awards.       

5. Give a brief biographical summary of the nominee’s career, including education positions held, location, years of teaching, and any other pertinent information.

Service to the Profession Award

This award was created in 2023, and is designed to be given to someone whose long-term dedication and service have had a positive impact on the entirety of the music education community in New Hampshire. Nominations and selection shall come from within the executive committee. Awards may be presented no more than once a year, at the discretion of the executive committee.
